Something similar has been happening to me also, but using Intel onboard 
graphics.

To me it happens very sporadically, no more than once a week. Even less as of 
late.

Mine is a Core 2 Duo on an Intel motherboard (965 chipset). Maybe this rules 
out the graphics board.
