response to reply to from here

OK, there's your problem. You're mixing-n-matching kde-redhat and
fedora packages. kde-redhat's latest is kdelibs-3.5.6-4
Our kdelibs (among others) is patched to not require .la files for
runtime use. Afaik, fedora's packages haven't been patched likewise.

OK - I see why that's happenned, but will have to figure out why.
It sees your package, but didn't use it because of a dependency
problem which requires libjasper.so.1

Fixed now, but I'm not sure of the why - I had to find a newer version of
Jasper, ver 1.9, which my package managers weren't pulling, even though I
found it on the redhat site. Even stranger, downloading the file and
attempting to install it produced software verification errors from various
sites. Finally, I found one that worked though I had to let it through
unsigned, even though I have the Redhat gpg keys installed. Anyhow, once I
got that installed, KDElibs went right on, and that cured my problem.

I am running on Centos 4.4 with the latest from kde-redat and I can't
seem to get the sounds to work. I select a sound and click the play
button and nothing happens. I have sound via other software such as
Xchat.
Any ideas?
