Howdy,

I re-installed my Fedora Core 4 workstation yesterday and now I can't get amarok
to play any of my mp3s.

When I press the play button nothing happens.
I have amarok configured to use the arts engine, which is how I've always done it.
I trashed all my configuration settings and started from scratch which didn't help either.

% rpm -qa | grep amarok
amarok-1.3.9-1.fc4

Any ideas?  I'm stumped.

Regards,
Allen

$ yum install amarok-extras-nonfree
(from livna) get's you the xine engine.

and for good measure:
$ yum install kdemultimedia-extras-nonfree

Gives mp3 (and a few other bits) support for arts.

Bummer, you're using freshrpms/rpmforge aren't you?  ):  They include a
ffmpeg pkg incompatible with livna's.

Ok, I  tried the following:

% rpm --erase ffmpeg libquicktime mjpegtools
% yum install kdemultimedia-extras-nonfree <- which installs ffmpeg and akode-extras
% yum install libquicktime mjpegtools

but, then amarok still doesn't play.

% yum update

Hmm... after that, arts should be able to grok mp3's. ??

Right, you simply can't mix livna + rpmforge if you use any ffmpeg-dependent
pkgs.

Eechem... I've been using the extras packages and freshrpms and livna supplied
extras with one hitch once. It was an ffmpeg issue that has since been
resolved. This is the reason that I use apt-get. And set prioritization.
Currently, I'm using FC5, but I did not have a problem using Amarok and the
Xine engine on FC4. Yum mixes and matches as it sees fit. Which leads to this
kind of conflict, because there is no way to prioritze where you get you
packages from.

Not exactly. yum simply chooses the pkg(s) with the highest EVR (Epoch,
Version, Release), with no support for pinning.
