Subject: [kde-redhat-users] OT: md5sums FC4
Message: 1
My apologies for the non-KDE post, but I know we have some FC4 users here.
I was checking a few md5sums between systems today, and my two FC4 systems
gave me some concern. For example:
29735a2e737f43e3d3a73718d256bffa bash
dfabb5aeb7da878082adc8b2f23f275f bash
with the same filesize, 686520. bash versions are identical: 3.0-31, and both
are 32 bit, etc ("file" returns the same info)
I'm used to seeing exactly the same md5sum for /bin files between Debian
systems.
I have two explanations (read error from CD or hack), but I was just hoping
somebody would send me an md5sum of bash on a 32 bit FC4 system (I only have
two, so I'd like to know which system is the problem). Unless, of course,
someone has another explanation for why they differ.
Thanks,
Logan

Quick followup: I was unaware of what prelink does on modern RH systems.
It makes modifications to the binaries to speed their execution, and
the modifications will differ between systems.
prelink --undo [filename] will allow comparison between systems.
Sorry for the non-KDE post.
Logan
