Maybe a gremlin found its way into the buildsystem when 3.5.4-1.1 was
done...
-- Rex
Using FC5 and KDE 3.5.4 in a multi-user environment (me, my wife, and my son).
$ rpm -q kdebase
kdebase-3.5.4-1.2.fc5.kde
When I plug our camera into the USB port, I get a dialog asking me what to do
with the newly found device, regardless of the number of other users logged
in, or the order in which we log in. I can open it in a new window, or do
nothing. However, I have one user who does not get this dialog. When she
plugs the camera in, if no one else is logged in she will get an error
message, but the camera will get mounted and Konqueror's file manager will
open media:/camera and she'll have access to the pictures.
If she plugs the camera in and another user is logged into the system before
her, she just gets the error message.
If she plugs the camera in and another user is logged into the system, but she
logged in first, she gets the error message, but the camera will get mounted
and Konqueror's file manager will open media:/camera and she'll have access
to the pictures.
The error message is :
"Cannot find parent item media:/ in the tree. Internal error."
This strikes me a a console.perms issue, but the relevant (I think)
console.perms lines in /etc/security/console.perms.d/50-default.perms are:
<camera>=/mnt/camera* /dev/usb/dc2xx* /dev/usb/mdc800*
<console> 0666 <camera> 0660 root.users
and look fine to my untrained eye. (similar settings work fine for sound)
Any idea what's happening and how to fix it?
Thanks,
Tim

Subject: [kde-redhat-users] Font anti-aliasing in KDE 3.5.4
Message: 4
Hi,
I have been experiencing a strange problem since I updated to KDE 3.5.4.
I have anti-aliasing turned on in the KDE font control panel. When I
launch a new KDE application I see anti-aliased fonts, as always.
However, some processes that start at login time show (non-anti) aliased
fonts. Right now I see:
yakuake: aliased
klipper: aliased
basket: aliawed
KDE menu: anti-aliased
new konsoles: anti-aliased
Today I launched Thunderbird very soon after I logged in. I noticed that
it, too, was aliased. When I quit and restart it, it went back to being
anti-aliased.
I did not see this problem before KDE 3.5.4. Is anyone else seeing this
behavior? Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? I am at a loss.
Thanks,
Jim Amundson

I do know that immediately after I logged back in after upgrading to KDE 3.5.4
most of the fonts were totally screwed-up. I went into the Control Panel->Appearance->Fonts
and clicked-off and then clicked-on the "Use Anti-Aliasing Fonts" checkbox. Then clicked [OK] button.
Then logged out and back in again and the fonts were fine.
I had to do the same thing on my wife's system.
No idea why.

I admit the same thing happened to me, but I had assumed at the time,
that it was due to my initial half-biffed build of kde-3.5.4.

Same here on fc5. Not all applications had the font problem, though.

I had the same experience on Scientific Linux 4.3. I was even careful and
logged out of X and switched to runlevel 3 before doing the upgrade (from
3.5.3 to 3.5.4). When I restarted X fonts were not anti-aliases (at least
not in konsole, konqueror, or the control panel). Switching anti-aliasing
off then on again fixed it.

Thanks. That worked for me. I don't know why I didn't try that earlier.
