In my installation of KDE 3.5, under Fedora Core 3, the Control Panel
will not display from the Preferences menu. It will run fine from the
shell. Suggestions?

In my installation of KDE 3.5 under Fedora Core 3, panel configuration
does not work. Attempting to start it either from the Control Center,
the Preferences menu, or the shell (kcmshell panel) displays a blank
dialog box. It appears that the file /usr/lib/kde3/kcm_panel.so is missing.

Suggestions?

Richard

search this list over the past 2-3 weeks... can't give you the answer from
memory, cause I'll probably get a detail wrong, but your answer is in the
recent archives

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

There was some discussion of this problem, but no agreed solution, so
far as I can tell. And, as I said, /usr/lib/kde3/kcm_panel.so, which
seems to be the file in which the dialog box is contained (I've run
kcmshell whatever and then /usr/sbin/lsof | grep kcmshell to check
what's open, and there is always a file /usr/lib/kde3/kcm_whatever.so),
just isn't there. Nor is it listed by rpm -ql kdebase, though all the
other such files are.

Just a quick note: On my machine, "kcmshell panel" loads [1]
"/usr/lib/kde3/kcm_kicker.so" and not "/usr/lib/kde3/kcm_panel.so".
