Hi,

Just upgraded my FC3 box to KDE 3.5 last night. Looks good, but kmail are
having problems with Norwegain fonts/encoding. Typing Norwegian characters in
the editor is OK, but saving in drafts folder and then editing again, special
Norwegian characters like æøå are changed to stuff like "Ã¥" for "å". I've
tried to change the encoding settings and also change fonts but this has no
effect. I can see symptoms of the same problem when receing replys to email
sent from kmail KDE 3.5.

I'm using US english as the desktop language, but that shouldnt' have anything
to do with it?

Anybod else have the same promblem?

Regards,
Ole Jacob

New discovery: I can enable transparency for the pager as long as I turn off

Rex: Just to let you know that the new arts package cured the issue I was
having with arts not being found when compiling Piave
Now, I have a different problem, but I don't think it has anything to do with
your packages - during make I get the following:

 g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../.. -I/usr/include/kde/arts -g -O2 -MT
vorbisfile.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/vorbisfile.Tpo -c vorbisfile.cc  -fPIC -DPIC
-o .libs/vorbisfile.o
vorbisfile.cc: In member function 'virtual void
PIAVE::InVorbisfile::decodeAudio(PIAVE::Frame&, uint8_t*)':
vorbisfile.cc:243: error: 'ceil' was not declared in this scope
make[4]: *** [vorbisfile.lo] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory
`/home/cj/downloads/kdenlive/piave-0.2.4/plugins/iostream/vorbisfile'

I don't understand the messages well enough to be sure it's not a kde-redhat
package issue, so correct me if I'm wrong. I read this as saying there's
something wrong with something called vorbisfile

Looks like an incompatibility with fc4's gcc-4.0.x. I'd report it to
Piave's developers.

Probably vorbisfile.cc doesn't include <math.h>
I'd say this is a problem with the Piave source

OK - I'm trying to learn, here. I found vorbisfile.cc in the piave package and
opened it and went to line 243 as indicated in the above error - here's
what's in that section:

    /* how much data do we need at least? */
    // FIXME: this way rounding errors will add up: FIXME
    double wtd = f.getLength() * _frequency * _nChannels;
    int words_to_deliver = static_cast<int>( ceil( wtd ) );
    if ( words_to_deliver <= 1 ) return;

I guess this pretty much states there's an issue with this script, here -
definitely not a kde-redhat package problem - am I getting this right?

Does it work if you insert

#include <cmath>

in the header of the file, near all the other #include's.

I have been using akregator to read the kde planet (blogs). I noticed there
some time ago that Aaron Seigo, kicker maintainer, reported some strange
error with transperency in kicker. It seems to be an elusive bug since he
never saw it but lots of other people see it.

The good news is that he was able recently to duplicate the bug and fixed it,
the bad news is that it didn't make to 3.5.0.

Here's the relevant area:

/**
 * \file vorbisfile.cc
 */

// config
#if defined( HAVE_CONFIG_H )
#    include "config.h"
#endif

// std c
#include <stdio.h>
#include <sys/ioctl.h>
#include <sys/soundcard.h>

// std c++
#include <iostream>
using std::cout;
using std::cerr;
using std::endl;
#include <string>
using std::string;

// this header
#include "vorbisfile.hh"

// PIAVE
#include "libpiave/frame.hh"
#include "libpiave/property.hh"

Where do you suggest I try adding your suggested include?

I have two machines at home running FC3, both updated to KDE 3.5.0 a few days ago. \
One of them I'm having some quirks with (which might be fixed by removing ~/.config \
as I saw in another post) and the other I'm a little baffled.

The panel will only unhide in the bottom-left corner on the one machine; the other is \
fine. I haven't tried deleting the kicker prefs yet, since I couldn't access the \
control panel to set it back up, but I'm going to try that tonight after deleting the \
~/.config (strange it affects the kcmshell panel controls...)

Anyone seen this and have a simple solution rather than starting over with the kicker \
prefs? I hope that will fix the issue!

For starters, at the end (of the part you quoted).

Putting in as above resulted in the same error - thanks for trying - I'll send
this stuff to the developers, and see if I get a response

 That is fair. Try it like this:

> // PIAVE
#include "libpiave/frame.hh"
#include "libpiave/property.hh"
#include <cmath>
using std::ceil;

> Putting in as above resulted in the same error - thanks for trying - I'll

  ceil is in the std namespace. :-)

  Now it should work.

In Kmail from KDE 3.5:

Settings -> Configure KMail -> Accounts -> Sending
(select entry) -> Modify -> General -> Send custom hostname to server
