I doubt that there will be much use for IA64 machine. Most of the
Titanic (pun intended) servers I saw were used as (slow) headless
servers. (Yep, I don't like the IA64 architecture.) A simple AMD64
machine will work just fine.
As for donations, I guess that 500$ should be enough to get a decent
Athlon64x2 machine. (Or better yet, get an old dual Opteron machine on
eBay)
I'm willing to put my share.

One way is sourceforge has a feature for projects to accept donations 
via paypal.
