GPL only requires the Source be available, and it is, just not from me.

It's not necessarily for lack of space at the moment really. I was just
aiming for efficiency (and apt/yum index building faster).

Oops, apparently not true after reading the gpl-faq:

Can I put the binaries on my Internet server and put the source on a
different Internet site?
The GPL says you must offer access to copy the source code "from the
same place"; that is, next to the binaries.

OK, so nosrc.rpm's will be replaced with real src.rpms first thing next
week.

You are hitting a very, very ugly issue.

I think you would not be gaining much with src.rpm -> nosrc.rpm, as
the indexing from yum is the same (only picks the rpm header), and
apt's md5sum is cached.

While apt with the caching mechanism can recreate metadata very fast,
and yum20 also takes a small amount in time, the new yum takes a
couple of ages to complete.

I will be splitting buildhost, repo and metadata creation onto
different machines for that reason only :( And probably even drop some
distros to get back to sane repo refresh cycles. Splitting the repo
into different components will also help a bit, as new packages will
only update some sub-repos.

smart's author is considering to add a new metadata format that can be
incrementally populated and that will only have log(N) bandwidth
consumption making maintainers and users happy. I can't wait for it
... :/

After upgrading to FC4 yesterday I've tried to get my 'fix' of the new updates
in kde-stable. Plenty to install, but they keep falling over and failing
saying ;-

Following the emails here I've tried to get any necessary stuff from

problem, and, if so, have you a solution please?

Hopefully thanks

Go to rpm.pbone.net and do a search for libImath.so.2 and install what pops up
for it, it will be a package that includes all of them. Livna.org seems not
to have FC4 repos up yet, but I was able to get into their server using a web
browser to get my nVidia driver. I have just disabled the repo for now.

There's been a change at Livna. You have to change the endings of the
file names in the repo file from .stable to .lvn as in:
baseurl=http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/RPMS.lvn
  http://livna.cat.pdx.edu/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/RPMS.lvn

which used to be:
baseurl=http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/RPMS.stable
  http://livna.cat.pdx.edu/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/RPMS.stable

It's one of those things: "I read it over on the Fedora-list." I can't
vouch for it's accuracy. It does seem to work and allow use of the Livna
repository. But, before trying it, I hunted around the Livna website and
couldn't find any reference to this change. So, caveat emptor... I
should have made this point in my reply to Sharon. But, I've had the
change up for over 12 hours now with no problems. By the way, I ended up
changing the extensions for testing and unstable as well, and that seems
to have done the trick of those as well.

Thanks for this Claude, that sorted the problem out, and for the benefit of
the archives the files that I needed [up-to-date FC3 upgraded to FC4] were
OpenEXR and fltk [although that last one came from the FC3 repo on my
machine].

Going on to livna, it looks like they only have 'stable' working atm, with no
'unstable' or 'testing', but, its still early days :)

Thanks
Sharon.

Hi all,

I finally got round to installing (a fresh install) of FC4 and I am also
seeing the KMail crash when trying to send a message,

The "work around" I have found so far is to save the message in "Drafts" and
then move it to the Outbox and use "send queued"..

I will test some more things later, perhaps a fresh .kde DIR..

Cheers,

Colin

Thanks for this, Colin - if it works...this is a test of your workaround.

Looks like it works :)

I am off to check bugs.kde now as I have found a couple of problems one being
with Konq crashing when sound previews are active:

View > Preview > Sound Files

Not sure if it related to Arts just yet though, as the other oddity is also to
do with activating sound previews on the Desktop.

Config Desktop > Behaviour > File Icons > Sound files, with this active my
Desktop keeps "blanking".. strange...

If anyone replies to this best change the Subject :-)

Cheers,

Colin
