I retract this early report - I just didn't understand the GUI. I was clicking
on the "Add Language" button and only getting my default English language. I
had to click on the bar above labelled "Default" to get additional countries.
I still couldn't get additional languages because they aren't installed, but
all the countries appeared in the drop-down list and I was able to change to
Germany and this changed the currency to Euro... Could you be having the same
issue?

As I see no patch(es), unlikely. The post you refer to *claims* the bug
is fixed in 3.4.1, but apparently not?

Puzzling, as we don't update/modify any gnome components (at least not
on FC3)????

Anything helpful in ~/.xsession and/or /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

Rex, or anyone: Do you know if the new package-set contains a fix
for the dcop error/administrative password problem? I ask because
I'm still using Eli's workaround and I don't know whether it's
time to edit it out of the rc.local file, yet.

On a related note, is there any downside to deleting the kdecache
files every time I reboot? I presume these caches have to be
rebuilt, but is that something that is causing slow-down or other
issues? I haven't noticed much, except perhaps some delays in
things that used to be quicker - for example: when I want to open
a root terminal, there's a fairly substantial pause, maybe up to
several seconds, before the terminal window appears after I put in
my password. Could this be related to the missing cache files?
There is no real problem with my system - I'm just curious.

AFAIK, no kde developer has been able to reproduce the problem nor has
any fixes been committed.

Correct, logins will be a a wee-bit slower, that's all.

Using kde-redhat 3.4.1 on FC2.
Anybody else getting consistent crashes/segfaults of kicker when logging
out. It's occured on me on every logout I can recall since updating over
the weekend.
$ rpm -qf /usr/bin/kicker
kdebase-3.4.1-1.0.fc2.kde

I checked... It didn't fix the issue. I will be trying out a couple of things
over the next week or so, to see if this can be narrowed down further.
Probably on the weekend.

As to no kde developer being able to reproduce the problem, that's too bad. As
far as I understand it, kde developers are not to big on Redhat / Fedora. So
none of them are probably using fc3. So this one is going to be a little
tougher to figure out.

So the first question I've got to ask everyone whose experiencing this problem
what is your authentication mechanism? Are you using NIS, NFS, Samba, PAM,
Shadow Passwords, GDM, KDM passwords, etc?

Eli

Eli - I'm still too new to all this. I had no idea there were so many ways to
authenticate. I'm using whatever the default system is when you first install
Fedora.

Ok many thanks for _all_ the replies :-)

This leads me to think perhaps have a Fedora package missing maybe on this
box, any ideas anyone to which one it could be, as I am at a loss.

Cheers,

Yes the post says its fixed in 3.4.1 and indeed Akregator is 1.1.1, a bad
mistake by me :(

I will have to check this out again sometime as it seems to be acting "odd"
archiving the files and keeping the "status", I set the Status to "new" but
it does not keep that setting.

Sorry for the noise,

So what is the issue? If it is the crash that appears every time a
session is closed, then I have the bug. If that is what you're after,
let me know what data you need from me. I use standard authentication -
Shadow Passwords or whatever is the default for Fedora out of the box.
Also, I upgrade to Fedora 3 from 2 - I did not do the clean install install.

What happens is, that after I installed KDE (from GNOME) and then restarted
the computer, when it started to go into GNOME, no icons popped up in the
splash screen and nothing happened, but then X must have crashed, because
then I was presented with a black screen with a white rectangle cursor, then
I saw the GDM loging screen, when I tolf it to boot into KDE, it started
sucessfully, but GNOME does not work yet to this day.
When I press Ctrl-Alt-F1, I then get a sam login: prompt, I can type in the
username and pass and I will get the same beginning of a line as I do in
terminal. From there, how do I install KDE-Redhat over existing KDE?
