This was what I was remembered as having read, when I posted earlier. I went
ahead and ran the kernel update just now, figuring I could drop back to the
previous kernel if it didn't work. Yum definitely did NOT pick a new ATI
kernel module (required for each new kernel). I got a message when I rebooted
that DRI support was not going to be there due to this. Then the machine
booted in the latest kernel. Presumably, according to the Livna home page,
they will try to follow on with new modules within a few days of release of a
new kernel - so I guess we'll see. So far, except for the warning, nothing
seems untoward.

I made a mistake and clicked on the default button on the font page. Whatever
fonts picked, I assume, by the KDE-redhat team, or maybe just by KDE, that
were set by the installation have disappeared - everything has been replaced
by Sans 10 - can someone tell me what fonts are selected in the KDE-redhat
install, or better, tell me which file in the configuration files contains
the font declarations for the KDE desktop.

When dropping down runlevels I have a problem with the screen going blank
and then nothing happens.

So, is is possible to get the kde-redhat while using normal redhat kde and
then will all of my files and settings be kept (settings dont worry me much)

Hopefully after this all of my FC3 woes (there's quite a few) will be gone.

Apparently you have X/video driver issues.

You can do that, but it's not recommended. kde will possibly behave
strangely/hang until you at least restart X.

I¢d suggest you logout and use the session button to login into GNOME/XFCE/Failmode \
and from there you¢ll be able to upgrade KDE without a problem.

You can do that, but it's best to drop down to runlevel 3 before doing
any significant KDE upgrade (like kde-3.3 -> kde.3.4).

Can you not alter your (grub) command line at boot time to add a runlevel
argument ?

Just adjust the fonts in kcontrol. Or you can just run "kcmshell fonts" by
clicking the K-menu -> Run Command -> and type "kcmshell fonts". You can
individually choose fonts from there.

I'm not clearly stating my problem. I'm helping someone write a manual for a
program - my role currently is to do a lot of screen grabs. We discovered
that one of the GUI windows wasn't displaying properly and he wanted me to
choose a smaller font size. I went into Control Center to the Appearance and
Themes\Fonts - on the screen there, I clicked the defaults button, and didn't
notice the reset button till it was too late. I need to get back to the font
set I had before because I've already generated 80 screen grabs of this
program with that 'look' - I can't seem to figure out the path back. I'm
playing with Themes and Styles now - I don't remember having done anything in
particular to my fonts when I set up this machine, but there've been many
late night sessions and anything is possible. I'm beginning to figure out how
all this stuff interacts, and I probably am going to have to figure this out
on my own - one thing I have experimented a lot with is Themes and Styles,
and those interact to change the fonts depending on the 'look' you choose -
mostly thought, they seem to choose Arial - somehow, I haven't arrived at the
combination I had in place before I clicked on that default button and can't
get the same appearance.

AFAIK, the default (non-customized) KDE font *is* Sans, which is what
the "Default" button (re)sets it to. Previous KDE releases used Helvetica

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Anyone else seeing
W: Release file did not contain checksum information" errors...
when using 'apt-get update' against the kde-redhat repos?

Or am I just hallucinating today? (-:

For a home-grown apt repository which had been previously working for
eons, I'm suddently seeing

W: Release file did not contain checksum information...
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

errors, when trying to issue 'apt-get update' against it. Re-running
genbasedir or 'apt-get update' doesn't (seem to) help.

I'm puzzled mostly because the error seems *wrong* (the release file
*does* contain correct checksum information). A concrete example on my
RedHat EL4 box:
$ apt-get -version
apt 0.5.15cnc7 for linux i386 compiled on Apr 11 2005 14:33:46
Supported Modules:
*Ver: Standard .rpm
*Pkg: rpm interface (Priority 20)
S.L: 'rpm' Standard RPM binary tree
S.L: 'rpm-src' Standard RPM source tree
S.L: 'rpm-dir' Local RPM directory tree
S.L: 'rpm-src-dir' Local SRPM directory tree
  Idx: RPM Source Index
  Idx: RPM Package Index
  Idx: RPM Database

$ apt-get -q update
...
W: Release file did not contain checksum information for
file:/linux/kde-redhat/redhat/4/i386/base/pkglist.stable
W: Release file did not contain checksum information for
file:/linux/kde-redhat/redhat/4/i386/base/release.stable
...

$ grep release.stable /linux/kde-redhat/redhat/4/i386/base/release
  d86fd72961c348de7e3b4acc141f8859 158 base/release.stable

$ md5sum /linux/kde-redhat/redhat/4/i386/base/release.stable
d86fd72961c348de7e3b4acc141f8859 release.stable

Any ideas?
