I had a similar problem when I upgraded to KDE 3.4. What helped me was
to set, on Control Center --> Sound & Multimidia --> System
Notifications --> Player Settings, select "Use External Player" and
set it to "artsplay".

But I still get weird behavior from time to time, especially when I
use Java with sounds.

According to this page,

http://kopete.kde.org/index.php

May 20th 2005 - MSN problems fixed in SVN
A change was made to the MSN servers a few days ago which prompted
Kopete to display "wrong password" errors when attempting to connect to
the MSN service. The problem has been fixed and you will need to
recompile Kopete from KDE's subversion repository to get the fix. The
fix will be in KDE 3.4.1 which is planned for release within the next
three weeks.

Here is a link to a patch which works with kde 3.4.

http://lists.kde.org/?l=kopete-devel&m1678480704870&w=2

Rex - any chance we can get this patch rolled into kdenetwork?

Michael

I was skeptical about moving the plug, since the speakers have been plugged
into the same jack since I got this computer five years ago. And yet that's
what did it. How is that possible?

This particular problem is actually an arts bug. Fix: make sure
~/.kde/share/config/knotifyrc contains:
[StartProgress]
Arts Init=true
KNotify Init=true
Use Arts=true

These items sometimes erroneously get set to false, and once set,
there's no GUI to reset them.

Alsa/driver bug. When/if the bug in your card/driver gets fixed, you
may well have to switch the plugs back.

Try setting Headphone Jack Sense to Mute and Line Jack Sense to Mute. I had
this problem on FC3 machines with the Intel Audio Card.

I'd like to see a patched version in testing, because atm the functionality is
missing.

Hello,
I had the same problem when I first installed FC3. There are some
switches that were added to alsa. Make sure you turn off 'line jack
sense' and 'headphone jack sense' These mute everything unless the line
and/or headphone is plunged in.

Seems to build ok with
./configure --disable-final
so you can expect a patched kdenetwork in testing "real soon now"

 Hello,
I am a user of the KDE that came from yum before I found out about this
project. KDE is my only operating desktop environment, and I want to know if
I can just do the yum command on the website while in normal Red Hat KDE,
and then how I can get into kde-redhat.

Thank you,

*Sam Johnson*
