-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: RIPEMD160 Hello First of all, welcome back Herve, I hope, that you will be helping us out= =20 again, I would ver ymuch appreciate that. I just would like to add a few things without prolonging the discussion a= ny=20 futher. We asked for comments, we asked for pointers on how to improve a=20 given thing, namely the cover page that existed as a draft. We also asked= for=20 alternatives , should the shown draft not be found pleasing at all. Instead we have gotten 95% whines, I have been compared to Larry Flint (n= ot=20 that I mind that) and nothing as an alterbative has really been offered b= y=20 those who are involved. If you wish more influence onto the zine, then join the zine mailing list= ,=20 drop all your thoughts so they may be considered and do not flare your te= mper=20 when somone offers you to value their work and give pointers on how to ma= ke=20 it better or how to go about it in a different way. The only people who have offered a true alternative are those, who reacte= d=20 like Shawn, which I honor a lot. The main problem is, that we do not have= the=20 time, nor the ressources to do 20 drafts and then pick one that people mi= ght=20 find appealing. Dirk has done some amazing work for the XML/XSD, I have tried to organize= =20 people to help us, which is happening with the namazu front end for examp= le=20 and I also tried to organize a "cover" and aga offered to help me and=20 therefore kinda "ended" my search. There is not much I can expect from any of those who sit on the list, rea= d it=20 and now and then scream out loud, when something is offered or even semi=20 decdied that goes completely against their wishes. I am not talking about= =20 peopel like Herve who are involved with real life, a baby and a wife that= =20 both need him. It seems to me, that no one would like to see anyone in "charge", that no= one=20 should make any "decisions" and if this was aperfect, free project,a ll=20 should be decided in a vote. If Dirk and I ha dnot decided on using namazu, then John would not bework= ing=20 on a front end now. If Dirk and I would have not decided on using XML and XML-Schema from the= =20 Hard disk, then there would be no xml module now. If Chris would have not decided to sponsor ressources, there would be no = CVS=20 reporsitory. Somone _has_ to make a decision sooner or later and for the zine that was= me,=20 after carefully talking some man issues over with Dirk and posting them a= lso=20 to the list (except for the namazu issue). I am well willing to accept the "blame", repsonsibillity and "flames" for= the=20 decisions I make, but I am not willing to accept, that others tell me I a= m=20 not allowed to "urge" and "push" certain developments and decisions. Why did I push the zine cover? Because I think, that we can put the KDE=20 Magazine on a dual access track. First of all we try to attract users through exceptional content which is= NOT=20 purely technicalm but also revolves around KDE and where KDE was born fro= m,=20 namely open source. The KDE zine covers would serve a completely different access, they are=20 simply there t present stunning artwork, which is connected to KDE throug= h a=20 symbolsim or through something that is within the picture (such as the Ta= too=20 around her belly button). That doe snot serve the purpose of directly promoting KDE but it serves t= he=20 purpose of keeping KDE ina user's mind. Because no matter what she/he doe= s,=20 if he puts that cove rpic on his wall or as his background or shows it to= a=20 friend the K for KDE in it will not go away (no to mention, that each cov= er=20 gets extra text anyways). When I talked to aga about this, we were both sure, that it would be a ra= ther=20 charming addition to what we had allready planned for the zine. We are devoted to working for KDE and with KDE , but we ar enot advertise= ment=20 brochure for KDE, I doubt, that was Herve's initial intention, but he wil= l=20 surely correct me if it was. Building a reader community for the KDE Magazine should always be ourt fi= rst=20 goal, it should also be our goal to accept and attract as many different = kind=20 o readers as we can. Thanks to ade I have a highly technical, almost scientifc article which I= can=20 print from those who know C++, KDE and othe rissues very well. We will=20 hopefulyl also be allowed to print easier tutorials, such as a Designer=20 Tutorial from danimo and for those who are not familar with KDE there mig= ht=20 be a general article with ideas about open source and how it concerns KDE= =2E Whatever we do and whatever we keep doing, there _is_ a strong focus on K= DE. I do not quite see what difference it makes if we forked this project or = not.=20 Because we will be devoted to KDE none the less. It was never a termnial decision by me, yet Aga has last say about her=20 artwork and she decided _not_ to allow this motive to be tagged as a rele= ase=20 for the issue Numbe rone, which I personally find to be apitty. I have no= =20 cover now. I do nto knwo who would be willing to design one either, becau= se=20 those other people I asked are busy and I think the main KDE artists are = as=20 well. (we have not received any offer for icons for example) ..which I ca= n=20 understand, people are caught up in different projects. Additional to all this hassel, many things did sting me personally, even = if=20 that is not professional, yet, this is not my work, I believe in KDE and = I=20 also invest part of my joy, pain , sweat and laughter into such projects.= =20 Until now I have not seen much enthusiasm from anyone other than annma or= =20 Herve or me, all that we have received is sceptisim and comments about=20 futility and "vapour ware". That doe snot exactly spurr one on, you know? I did think about simpyl tossing this into a coner and storming out, but = the=20 KDE magazine deserves better and I will try to pass as much as I can on t= o=20 Herve, I was never there to replace him anyways. - -d - --=20 si vis pacem, para bellum 'Doubt thou the stars are fire; Doubt that the sun doth move; Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt I love. - - Hamlet, Shakespeare -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iQNmBAEUAwAGBQI7NHLCAAoJENYKnjdA0qXCxxANIIQxYVfDqsfpgkyoa4hGr+dd hqqSDiRwDXLg8T1F4dz7A+prI7dsqcoOW9WoXg1VRcYplpztZDPoJAlEnhaIKGwS tb9o39s1Bklr8ijzdlcOl44VZ2dHfr7hESfiRoYDDR3sFdGEvi3TKuqWiRJX9NN+ eb9tKmDXIXBhPPbpl/H+iXbFBWGs097WNulSAMoG0VOGsAS/+gVqRIRKNamoC4i1 n4yAxet3Rh923rggKCmACVcXqjDFC/REW77eZDPuU27XMhGk132otJmBjiUbUJq1 3QyE6Ra73k/Cf6U63Kdv+PpfQv0we9qE0U0qEtyhEnECdiXTyS0Dp+M4LWld+2Zv HJo8c8JT3bAcJxC/my/SRLrAmeWPexfhW/EwbgmegcJBiT6ASxJXJLoVrXBEDEkw Nl6+yDIs5lYCrDSG2GqCec7GaX/w2gp6Q2fHpJu6yKFm1QdS/xUdMp+xR8iqN7/k 1uPHtuFN4lk0lmU7z57P5eD8hcaMl4dv/YXoEsdHKfiRBEbC8tSln/8lPi9r1beG OcO/odjxLQU69Hhvkkh8qmCUNA0eI7DfDbTMyxGT9uTu0MXOWdgWvwxhbSJhJbjk X5hdGqnXBOwtfS8hq+TbBM6R3miagIujScqdcjWQRAtXtBCHQVJ8+ZpxlAzGOCQh CUTw2PtvE1kCOQmMtm/Wpu52ikbGlXGuDfE8ooIy5ntLmu8C7+N1PkmNYq1NPs+d uPJueU72mpkcFfjKD78gsJ8Kz429RJvUHNyjgnGXqouxxEWqPp67egm/rxjls/+8 iXZakGCEZClTM292sOPTc9WRoYHkD+7XRzuZHCohvkwHZJz9EjOEp/9+ksSReEDh DzsiaOrhe6/4AzA3JnuZbqDPNU2iftcVeh0tU8rsIBayNIJVIK3CIbvVGaUFOEmm mj4zniATvkhl5CdsjlZ90VzQJQcsdgmf/HDlxTjvKp1a7YsHzXjzuYbiIq+eBrik P7rtUNhprtDUqrEVDb9TF9DPVUwjlEN4cA9ygoh0p8OJh0bo0ryb0G+1tcoKa54v VeyRuL3sc1WI86o4tDu5Kf7Q2MPp0O46jzKzQ6iyO1dWpoh8W7f75P0AA6DIcs3f lWORVGbkJa2i =3DFfDj -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ This message is from the kde-promo mailing list.
