Well I have not seen a consensus yet.

I would hate to see that, but if your attitude is everything goes your
way or not at all it is better that you "step down" (from your
self-appointed position) now before you manage to kill off the project. 
Working well with others is a critical skill when managing a project,
and from what I have seen so far you need to work on that skill set.
