I think having a proper KDE YouTube Channel would be fantastic from a
marketing perspective. (To answer your question about Blip, it's still
around, but in likely a *very* different capacity from what it was when
that list was written, and it seems quite removed from what we need).

I will ask over in the Visual Design Group if they have anyone experienced
with video who would be willing to help us get started with that aspect,
since all other tasks are predicated on that. Tonight and tomorrow, I will
work out what all we are likely to need for this. Is there a proper wiki
we can use? I haven't been able to nail that down for sure.

If you're interested, I can work out a full plan some time, something a
little more comprehensive?
What I missed when making the videos was that I had to figure out the whole
workflow myself, from making shorter videos of specific features, to system
setup, how to blend in titles, what and how to encode properly for this
purpose, as well as graphical assets suitable for use. That makes this quite a
time-consuming task. I think if this workflow is defined in terms of tips and
tricks, targeted howtos and example material, that would make it way easier to
produce cool videos. Perhaps we can help each other then, developer shoots a
short film of a new feature, and someone from the promo team can then do the
"production" of it as a short clip suitable for a user audience.

I think using more video would be great as promo material, for user support
(explanation of features), but also to "show off" cool stuff we can do. \
For
many people, who don't experience our software first hand, videos are a \
way to
connect to our work before dipping in entirely.

As to the task, perhaps it could be redefined and divided into subtasks as:
- requirement analysis
- documentation (workflows, technicals, ...?)
- graphical, audio and other assets
- accounts and offical blessing for these
- people who can do voice over?
- finding more people who'd like to help with this topic, perhaps the work
resulting from the requirements analysis can be split
- getting started with the actual production (this ideally is done while
writing documentation, as the best way to write docs is to try doing it and
then describe what's going on).
- producing more, shiny videos
- pre-selecting audio background clips (license requirements, suggestions for
titles and their download locations)

So I think the big picture is that we want to promote KDE software by
producing high quality videos. We achieve this higher quality by shared
assets, documentation, workflows and sharing the work among us. The above are
really just a few ideas of what I think would help. Picking up any of these
tasks is welcome, even more thinking about it freely (we're not married to
anything specific right now, it's more just one big glaring hole in our promo
work), and attacking the problem in a pro-active way.
