Me too :) at least the concept .. the artwork is good but it isn't touched by
picasso's brush, so to speak.

Among the geek community who follows KDE ... which is important, but not in
the way I think you might be alluding to here.

It's important because it means something to us.

It's not important because the world at large knows it and buys into it.

Have you ever seen David Faure's KDE 2 t-shirt? It's a collector's item for
sure. He treasures it and wears it to every Akademy. This will be the same
thing. These things will not get lost, they'll remain cherished and I'm sure
we'll continue seeing them for a good long time.

I'm not sure the current Konqi is as famous and out there as you're suggesting
.. that said, I understand what you mean. The current Konqi was there from 2.x
and has morphed only slightly over time. It hasn't remained exactly the same:

But it has remained mostly in place.

I don't think we ought to be changing the mascot images every few years, but
the 5.x releases may be a good opportunity to communicate "refreshed"
including in the mascots. It does mean we'll be committing to whatever the new
images are for a good, long while. 10 years is probably a decent goal to think
about. That means the images need to be able to last.

Konqi as it is right now is, to be frank, a good but not a great mascot in
design. It's not bad by ANY means, but most of the goodness is simply because
we've had him around so long. :) So the new imagery doesn't have a huge hurdle
to clear .. but it does have to meet minimal standards. I trust the artists in
our community to understand that better than most of us hackers will ..

Se above. :)
