Yet many would want it to point to the old Desktop folder, where all
their shortcut icons are.

In the same way, I use krunner far more than the menu, but when I do
want the menu, I want kickoff for its search bar.  How many users,
though, immediately change back to Classic menu?

As long as it's optional, that sounds an excellent idea, but out of
scope for this project, I think.  Perhaps something that a SoC project
might do?

Believe me, I'm not knocking this initiative, just warning about
trying to be too prescriptive, since there is no accounting for
personal prefs :-)
