Hey folks,
Things are still a bit crazy for me at the moment, but I received this nice
email that I thought it might be nice to share (read also the original, not
just the one at the top).
Personally, I wouldn't go so much for the converting GNOME users approach, but
an introduction guide to our software for anyone new to us would be helpful. I
wonder if anyone has some time to pick this up?
Cheers,
Stu

Oh, and Step # 1 in the GNOME to KDE Primer Guide Tutorial Ultimate By The
Numbers Perfect Magic Ninja Manual: Right click the menu, and "Switch to
Classic Mode Style". IMO: Too many conveniences get in the way of the
convenience of a predictable interface. Your "Application Launcher Style" is
no better for KDE than the "Ribbon" is for Microsoft Office.

Subject: A KDE Primer for GNOME Users?
I'll be honest. I've been a GNOME guy for years. It pretty much worked the way
that I wanted it to. KDE *could* work the way I want it to, but I have to
tweak it first. Since then, I've spent months with GNOME 3 & Ubuntu's festering
pile of "Unity". Because of a random project that I'm working on, I needed to
dive into KDE again. Man! After the past months, KDE is a breath of fresh air!
I still feel that I'm learning the nuances as I go. My guess is that you could
get a lot of converts by publishing some sort of introduction to KDE for folks
who are used to GNOME; especially if those folks are dissatisfied with GNOME 3
and/or Unity. Show those folks how to reclaim their lost features with KDE!
By the way, the project that re-introduced me to KDE is trying to get xrdp to
work. xrdp (missing capital X because "xrdp" is sometimes case-sensitive)
needs VNC as a crutch with GNOME, but it can serve up KDE with the much faster
[Microsoft] Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). I soon hope to have a totally free
server doing what would otherwise cost me a Microsoft Server license, a lot of
Client Access Licenses (CAL's), a Terminal Server license, and a lot of CAL's
for Terminal Server.
I should mention that I cannot donate money. I work for the government, so if
my employer made a donation, then that would be an illegal "gift of public
funds." I cannot donate personally because the state of California is so broke
that I had to recently take a 10% pay cut in the form of mandatory days off
without pay.
Anyway, I hope my suggestions are helpful to your mission of promoting KDE.
