Heya everyone :)

this is the big poke to get the buzz started.
Tell everyone about KDE 4.2 on Twitter, digg, identi.ca, facebook,
xing, linkedin, flickr, youtube and so on and so on.
I'll post to digg in a second and then share the link here. Please
post any interesting links you find as a reply to this email.
Tag everything with "KDE42". If you can think of anything useful to
twitter and co use this: "a breath of fresh air on the desktop: #KDE
4.2 released http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.2
http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.2/guide.php"
Those are the links we want to spread the most:
http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.2/ and
http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.2/guide.php

Below you can find the SMPR HowTo again for reference.

Cheers
Lydia

Social Media Press Release HowTo

sites to target
----------------------

    * digg.com
    * reddit.com
    * fsdaily.com
    * slashdot.org
    * twitter.com
    * identi.ca
    * facebook.com
    * linkedin.com
    * xing.com
    * flickr.com
    * youtube.com
    * del.icio.us
    * stumbleupon.com
    * your own blog
    * any other social network site you are active on

general
------------

    * Help build a network of KDE people by adding them as your
friends/contacts.
    * Tag everything with the same tag. The tag will be announced on
the kde-promo list. This makes it easier to keep track of everything.
    * Be positive.
    * Take part in discussions.
    * Vote on stories and rate content.
    * Encourage others to spread the word.
    * Try to answer questions. If you can't answer it yourself try to
find someone who can. If they don't have an account or the time to
answer do it for them.
    * Try to answer FUD with a clear, calm and short comment.

site specific information
-----------------------------------

digg.com (and partly reddit.com, fsdaily.com, slashdot.org)
    * Votes are called diggs.
    * Please bury (button next to the "digg" button) stories that are
spreading FUD or are plain wrong.
    * Try to only digg the most successful of competing submissions
for the same story. We risk getting none of them to be successful
otherwise.
    * Send "shouts" to your friends. They will get an email with a
link to the story you shout to them. There is a "share" link for this
next to the digg button.
    * Check what people you are friends with are digging.
    * Do not only vote on the story itself but also the comments. By
default people do not see comments below a certain rating -> very good
for removing FUD.
    * People on digg do not like to get played. (for example: people
paying for diggs)

twitter.com and identi.ca
    * Do not only post a link but also some text with it as links get
shortened with tinyurl so the link target and message is not visible
and context is missing for the reader.
    * Keep an eye on the search for words related to the release.
http://search.twitter.com http://identi.ca/search/notice
    * Use tags (i.e. #kde or #kde42)
    * on identi.ca consider posting to the KDE room by using !kde in
your message
    * To post to multiple micro-blogging services at once you can use Ping.fm
    * Even if a lot of your friends already posted messages please do
send another one. Your groups of followers/subscribers do probably not
overlap 100%.

facebook.com, linkedin.com and xing.com
    * Change your status.
    * Join and engage in discussions in the appropriate groups.
    * Even if a lot of your friends already posted messages please do
send another one. Your groups of friends do probably not overlap 100%.

youtube.com and flickr.com
    * Post screenshots/screencasts and encourage others to do the same.
    * Rate and comment on other images and videos.
    * Mark images and videos as favorites.

your own blog
    * Maybe highlight something you love the most in the new release
or something you have been working on a lot.
    * What would you be most excited about if you were a user?
    * Consider adding a nice screenshot, beautiful release graphic
provided by the Oxygen team or a gorgeous photo (from flickr if you
don't have one yourself).
    * A useful tool for adding related links, pictures, tags and
similar to your blog entry is Zemanta extension
(http://www.zemanta.com) for Firefox (and some other browsers)
