You know Konqi is in the hands of one of the 
http://www.elephantsdream.org/ lead artists these days?

Basse did some interesting stuff already using blender and Krita. 
Konqi is his testing pet. Last I heard he did a complete new 
model to allow for face movement and stuff.

Dunno what will come out of it, but just wanted to say "Konqi is 
not orphaned, 3D wise" :)
