the gap between KDE and 2nd place was 28+ points!

not only did it grow year-over-year but unlike last year which was a dead heat 
between Quanta and Bluefish, Bluefish sank like a rock with a number of new 
tools taking bits and nibbles. shows that Quanta is doing a good job of 
retention, aka its users are happy.

> Mail Client of the Year - KMail (21.79%) [1st Thunderbird, beating
> Evolution] 

both of these categories had a disproportionate number of voters. i think the 
firefox promotion gears were in fine form, again. i was esp surprised at how 
well Thunderbird did (not just that it won, but the margin by which it did). 
but yes, KMail edged out Evo but a hair. tides are a turning!

> Editor of the Year - Kate (17.24%) [1st vi/vim, beating Emacs]

with KWrite taking another 7%, making for a total of 23% for katepart. quite a 
nice leap from last year and certainly moving in on vim's more or less steady 
36%

> Audio Multimedia Application of the Year - amaroK (31.15%) [1st XMMS]

this is a truly impressive showing for such a new app. next year: 1st!

> Office Suite of the Year - KOffice (7.92%) [1st OOo, beating GNOME Office]
> Window Manager of the Year - KWin (19.74%) [1st Fluxbox]

gaining 3pts this year and beating out virtually all other wm's. in fact, only 
it and flux had growth of over 1 pt year over year. E grew .5pts and 
everything else sank. for a window manager that is almost never run by 
itself, KWin made an awesome showing. 

> Messaging App of the Year - Kopete (21.85%) [1st Gaim] 

not a lot of budge here compared to last year. i think Kopete could do well 
with some extra promo for 3.4 ....
