heh.. and once again language bites us in the ass.

he wasn't saying it was immature. he was saying that despite it being a mature 
(as in, been around for a long time and well developed) piece of software it 
still doesn't see very wide deployment.

english is a tricky language.

this is a marketing plan making tool.

the idea is to look at what others say about themselves. in other words, what 
does is the public being told about them. this isn't about accurately 
measuring or describing the various bits of software, it's about collecting 
what the public sees. this is one step towards understanding the audience and 
what others in your space (aka "competitors") feel is important to say.

while Steve may not know much about GNOME, many of us here know very little 
about real world marketing. not surprising really: Steve isn't a programmer 
he's a 4th year marketing student; most of us are marketters, we're 
accomplished software developers. =)

yes, usability is a big thing for them. i18n, accessibility and usability.
