The first topic I think would be really interesting. I have never really seen
interviews with KDE developers with a focus on the technologies they use in
their apps - it's usually more "fluff" than technical content. If there was a
series like this, it could help spread know-how on more advanced KDE
development, and enable better knowledge transfer. This can only be a good
thing. Some possible good interviews would be:
- Interview with a core Kommander dev. Detail the technology, why it was
developed (what was the need that drove the design?) how it is best utilized
in a KDE app, what are some upcoming KDE apps that will be using it, a short
code sample.
- Same as above, except with KNewStuff. KNewStuff is a framework I really
wish more KDE apps would be using, rather than rolling their own thing
( like, for example, the KDE theme manager should be using it)
- Interview with Thiago or someone about the new KNetwork classes - What drove
the requirement for them, how do they differ from the previous networking
classes, what kind of new functionality do they provide and how can a
developer make use of it.
- Interview with some people involved in standards -steering. Look at how KDE
integrates with freedesktop.org standards. Look at where we are, where we
need to go. Highlight some interesting up-and-coming things at freedesktop
that KDE will be involved in, and developers can take advantage of.
- Interview with one ore more core kde developers on KDE4/QT4 - a preview of
what they see changing in kdelibs, what they think about the DCOP/DBUS issue,
what are some new technologies in the pipeline for KDE4, etc.
Maybe something like this could be called the "Developer Series". I would be
willing to commit myself to doing one of the above a week - wirting up
interesting interview questions and formatting the story is the easy part.
The hard part is on the interview-ee, and whether or not they have time to
answer questions in a detailed technical interview like this.
