FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 18, 2003 (The INTERNET). The KDE Project today announced the
release of a special Christmas preview of KOffice 1.3, a free set of office
applications that integrate with the KDE desktop. KOffice utilizes free and
open standards for its document formats component communication and component
embedding, and provides a variety of filters to interoperate with other
popular office suites.

The official version of KOffice 1.3 will be released on January 14th, 2004.
Highlights of the release are improved support for non-KOffice document
formats such as Microsoft Word and OpenOffice, the Kivio flow-charting
application and the Kugar report generating tool. With the word processing
application KWord it is now also possible to open and change PDF documents.
More than 500 reported issues have been corrected since the KOffice 1.2
release and many new features have been added.

The KOffice 1.3 Christmas Preview will be available for download from
http://download.kde.org/stable/koffice-xmas/

About KOffice and KDE

KOffice is part of the KDE Project. KDE is an independent project of
hundreds of developers, translators, artists and professionals worldwide
collaborating over the Internet to create and freely distribute a
sophisticated, customizable and stable desktop and office environment
employing a flexible, component-based, network-transparent architecture
and offering an outstanding development platform. KDE provides a stable,
mature desktop, a full, component-based office suite (KOffice), a large
set of networking and administration tools and utilities, and an efficient,
intuitive development environment featuring the award winning IDE KDevelop.
KDE is working proof that the Open Source "Bazaar-style" software
development model can yield first-rate technologies on par with and
superior to even the most complex commercial software.

KOffice 1.3 Christmas Preview released

The official release of KOffice 1.3 was originally planned for this week
but since many people are already preparing themselves for the upcoming
end-of-year festivities we are afraid that binary packages may not become
available for all platforms in time. For that reason we have decided to
release a special KOffice 1.3 Christmas Preview for all of you who can't wait
to give this new KOffice a try over the upcoming holidays. On January 14th,
the official version of KOffice 1.3 will be released together with the usual
variety of binary packages.

The KOffice 1.3 Christmas Preview is available for download from:
    http://download.kde.org/stable/koffice-xmas/

The changelog is available here

Screenshots are available here [ Where? ]

We hope you will enjoy it, seasonal greetings to all!
