The global LDAP addressbook is ro for the users while the private addressbook 
is   for handling contacts. In a future version of kolab you will be able to 
share emails, contacts, calendar and tasks via shared folders.

Appointments are currently to be migrated via D&D with OL.

Yes it is currently in Beta stage.
