Navindra:

My name is Martin Streicher and I am the Executive Editor of Linux Magazine
(http://www.linuxmagazine.com).

The November issue of Linux Magazine is about the Linux desktop, and I would
like to know if one (or more) of the KDE key contributors would like to
write a feature story on customizing KDE 3. I know KDE 3 was released
recently and 3.1 is in alpha, and I realize that KDE is a large topic ‹ I
wonder if we can narrow it down to a series of topics that end-users would
really like and benefit from. I am open to expert suggestions about what the
article should cover.

Off the cuff, some ideas include: how to make KDE a productive, environment
that facilitates work; cool tricks that are not well-known or
well-documented; the future of KDE; what¹s good, what¹s bad (for example, I
saw an article at http://osnews.com/story.php?news_id=1347 that could make a
really interesting sidebar or perhaps the inspiration for a custom KDE
configuration); how to tweak the basics like the window manager, themes, and
security settings.

I would expect that a reader would have a substantially improved KDE
environment (or wants to switch to KDE) by the time he (or she) finishes
reading the article, and would have an ability to continue customization on
their own.

As background, a feature in our magazine is 3500-4000 words (about 800 words
per printed page), and authors are paid $800.00 for their work. The deadline
for features for the Nov issue is Sep 1st. I would work with potential
authors to craft an outline for the story and would then be the editor for
the piece.

Please pass my request to anyone who is capable of writing the piece. I am
available to you or anyone else who wants to ask questions. I look forward
to hearing from you.

Martin
