The interoperation is already possible or will be possible in KOrganizer 2.2. 
You can drag a contact from the addressbook on an event and it will be added 
to the list of attendees. By selecting the mail action the event is sent to 
the attendees via KMail.

The integration into a common window is something, which will be possible by 
the use of KParts. KOrganizer already is a KPart, KMail and other apps would 
have to be converted. That's nothing particular difficult and it's arguable 
if it would be a great benefit, so this doesn't have a very high priority.
