Subject: [Kde-pim] cachedimap behaves badly when its cachedir goes readonly

Morning all,

Environment:
desktops running KDE3.4 (FC3), with homedirs served off an NFS server.
Kontact 1.1.2 with Kmail 1.8.2, using cachedimap connections to a
kolab2 (cyrus) server.

last week, the NFS server dropped a disk out of the RAID, and the RAID
card decided to remount all drives readonly. As a result, Kontact had its
cachedimap go readonly. (yes, the RAID card has been torn out and tossed
under a nearbye herd of elephants, not withstanding the hail of expletives
thrown at it)

At this point, although Kontact could still see the cachedimap
connections, it decided to clear the server of any emails (not folders,
just emails).

Any new emails were also dutifully wiped off of the server.

Kontact was complaining at this point about being unable to write to its
cache - it should have quit then, rather then try to keep the cache sync'd
with the server (which is what I think it tried to do).

This is, imho, bad behaviour by Kontact. lost of access to its local cache
shouldnt result in the server being cleared.

Is this known behaviour? I can't keep backing up everyones emails every 10
minutes in case it happens again?
