Hi There was no response on my last message, so I'd like to bring this up again, as data loss is probably the worst that can happen. I'm (and obviously others as well) experiencing occational data loss with the addressbook and the std.vcf resource for quite some time now. The problem is not only that the data gets lost, but also that the automatically created backup copies are silently overwritten with the empty addressbook. Which means they are pretty useless. I did some experiments and perhaps found a possible explanation for what's going on. My suspicion is that another process (koragc) has locked the resource and kaddressbook doesn't check and notice that. But at the same time saving also doesn't fail because of that. Instead an empty address set is returned and saved i.e. data is lost! For more details and my patches please see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87163 It would be really great if somebody with more insight in kaddressbook and the resource handling could have a look at this. If the real cause can't be found, at least the backup handling should be made safer.
