The problem is that the "next N days" can be configured to any value, so 
checking for a hardcoded 3 is not really useful...

How about:
datesCount()==1: advance 1 day
1<N=datesCount()<5: advance N days
5<=datesCount()<30: advance 1 week
30<=datesCount(): advance 1 month
