It's most likely the device nodes not being set up properly - please take a 
look at the FAQ on kpilot.org, which will tell you how to troubleshoot this.

Same applies here (well, having pilot-xfer work is prior to getting kpilot to 
work). Try -p /dev/ttyUSB1 instead.

Not enough detail - if you're installing from packages, talk to the packagers. 
If you're installing from source, please explain more.
