It's Luiz Gonzaga, a Brazilian singer. He is using a traditional
leather hat, one that is used by the poor people of the semi-desert in
the countryside of the northeast of Brazil. He does not look like a
soldier to me :) The image is blurred in the 64x64 version, and the
128x128 version won't even be committed.

Brief profile:

He used to sing northeast "folk style" songs, about the lives of the
poor in the semi-desert. His songs have a lot or rhythm and are easy to
dance. His lyrics are fun as well. He is already deceased. His greatest
hit was "Asa Branca" (White Wing, the name of a bird) and starts like:

Quando olhei a terra ardendo
Qual fogueira de São João,
Eu perguntei a Deus do céu
Porque tamanha judiação.

Que fogueira, que fornalha,
no meu pé de prantação.
Por falta d'água perdi meu gado
morreu de sede meu alazão.

Inté mesmo o Asa Branca
bateu asas do Sertão.
Então eu disse "Adeus, Rosinha,
guarda contigo meu coração".

"Quando o verde dos teus olhos
se espalhar na prantação ,
eu te asseguro, não chore não, viu,
que eu voltarei, viu, meu coração".

And it means: translation by me :)

When I saw the land burning
Like a fire in St John's fest
I asked God in heaven
Why such a waste here in earth

What a fire, what an oven
In my poor piece of field
I lost my cattle for lack of water
My faithful horse died of thirst

Even the white wing
Flew away from this desert
Then I said, "I'm leaving, Rosa
But keep my heart with you

When the green color of your eyes
Spread through the fields
I assure you, don't cry
I will return, my heart"

Note: about the green color in the eyes of Rosa: parts of north east of
Brazil were a Dutch colony, and there are many green eyed people in the
middle of the semi-desert. And he is saying that as soon as it rains, he
will come back, as the white wing bird will return (it always does).

Check this link for his picture (you don't want to miss his picture, I
assure you).

Can something be cooler than this guy?

Instead of pixelating, he decided to write it in a softer color, so it
is not legible in smaller sizes. (and looks better). He is aware of the
issue, and already removed the name of the month in the calendar icon.
Again, the 128x128 version won't even be committed.

I will ask him to do that, if you think it is important.
