Hi, everyone,

We (Pat Egen and myself) are finally at the point where we can
realistically schedule the first Interop to be sponsored by The Calendaring
and Scheduling Consortium that we've been working on for Lo! these many
months. This will be an in-person Interop. We are planning to hold it on
the West Coast, probably in late May or (if that is too early) in July, and
preferably on Thursday and Friday to allow people leisure after the event
(and to take advantage of Saturday night stayovers). So we are tentatively
thinking of

(a) 27-28 May
(b) 8-9 July
(c) 29-30 July.

We would like feedback as quickly as possible as to whether you plan to
participate, and which dates are best for you, in order to confirm dates
and facilities. Also, please let us know if you are interested in hosting
this Interop or one of the next few. We are talking with a potential host
for the first Interop but an alternative is always good to have, and we
want to have another Interop or two later in the year.

This Interop will also be the first public event of The Calendaring and
Scheduling Consortium, and we are hoping to host a kick-off reception on
the afternoon or early evening of the day before the first day of the
Interop (i.e. Wednesday 26 May, 7 July, or 28 July). All participants at
the Interop are invited to attend the reception, as are members and
potential members of the Consortium.

We are very interested in having a variety of participants at this Interop,
including Open Source organizations and academic institutions, so please
respond if you think you can make it and give us your preference in
schedule dates.

And finally, the Consortium is now in existence. The new website will be
up at http://www.calconnect.org no later than Tuesday 20 April, and will
include information about previous Interops and will offer more planning
and process information for the upcoming Interop as soon as we have it
available.

So visit the website, and please consider having your company or
organization join the Consortium. You'll get a significant discount on
Interop participation fees along with other members benefits.

Best Regards,

This is right before the IETF meeting in San Diego (1 - 6 August) so it
could be tied to that, in which case doing it 30/31 (Friday/Saturday) would
be better. Ideally having it at the IETF hotel would be good too. If the
calsch WG meeting could be scheduled early in the week that might encourage
a larger attendance from those at the interop who might stay over.

Cyrus,

A good point and one I hadn't thought of. Or if we stuck to
Thursday/Friday and the host was anywhere on the West Coast (for example)
it would still be possible for people to easily get down to San Diego for
the IETF meeting, on an air ticket that spanned a Saturday night. Unless
we actually had the event in San Diego and probably at the hotel I would
think we'd want to give people a day in between -- especially us, as we
have to take down the site and bundle ourselves up.

That would argue for EITHER waiting until the end of July, OR having the
first one asap and then the second one at the end of July. By this
reasoning the early July date would be least useful.

Dave Thewlis
