The thing is that usually you don't have so few appointments that some columns are empty. At least I have several events each day, and then the width of the columns seems more or less random, and that just looks plain ugly. Yesterday we had an IRC session and he had another screenshot, where that also looked really bad (danimo also complained). Currently that problem was mentioned at least in three bug reports (52517, 49763, and some other that I can't find right now), so some users don't like that either.
