Since I'm the reporter I'm marking it as resolved. It seems that it was a bug in the 
KDE 3.2 packages I'm using (Orth packages): Kontact should depend on 
KAddressbook and it didn't, as soon as I installed the kaddressbook package 
everything started to work as expected. Sorry for the inconvenience.
