Dear kde-pim list

I hope this is not a trivial question, but I
have run into some trouble with
Kpilot/Korganizer as installed from the
RedHat 9 CD's.

Some details:-

KDE 3.1-10 on Redhat 9 distribution
Kpilot 4.3.6(3_1_BRANCH)
Pilot: Palm Pilot Professional
(scheduled for replacement, but using it
to check operation w/ linux first)

Essentially, setup and config went as
indicated in the manual, and Kpilot
behaves as expected (except of course
that the manual is out of date as it
acknowledges). The notes conduit works
nicely,
but there seems to be a problem with
the korganizer-related conduits
(calendar, todo, address all behave
similarly to the example below).

13:02:34 Trying to open device...
13:02:34 Device link ready.
13:02:56 Checking last PC...
13:02:57 KPilot 4.3.6
(3_1_BRANCH) HotSync starting...

13:02:57 [Conduit knotes-conduit]
13:02:57 [KNotes conduit:
13:02:57 Modified one memo.
13:02:58 Added one new memo.
13:02:58 No memos added to KNotes.
13:02:58 ]

13:02:59 [Conduit vcal-conduit]
13:03:51 Syncing with file
"/home/richard/.kde/share/apps/korganiz
er/recw.ics"
13:04:16 No Files to install
13:04:16 End of HotSync

13:04:16 HotSync Completed.
13:04:19 Trying to open device...
13:04:19 Device link ready.

Some observations that may be relevant:
* Full backups seem to work, and
anyway notes are handled, so I do
not believe it is an interface problem.

* Before this test run there were small
changes made in notes and calendar
on both palm and PC. Notes were
    handled properly, calendar was not.
Kpilot was set to do a hotsync if
    possible.

* 2) Note long pause almost 1 min,
    13:02:59-13:04|:61) while kpilot
    seems to investigate the korganizer
file but finds nothing to do.

* It does not seem to be an issue of
    permissions. The owner (richard) of
all the files is running kpilot on data
in his own home directory, and owns
    all files and directories there
(permissions 700 on all files and
dirs). Anyway, I have also tried
setting 777's all the way down from
/home, just to make sure- no
    difference)

* Kpilot is obviously 'aware' of
    korganizer (see error message below,
    caused by not shutting down
    korganizer before doing a hotsync).
13:09:14 [Conduit vcal-conduit]
13:09:14 KOrganizer is running, can't
update datebook.
13:09:14 The conduit unnamed could
not be executed.
13:09:14 No Files to install
13:09:14 End of HotSync

Anotherexperiment may be interesting
to you, though I do not really
    understand it.
    a) delete its contents of korganizer
    database by saving empty korganizer
    file to 'recw.ics'
    b) do hotsync
    c) result is that entire contents of
handheld pilot are copied up to
korganizer file (i.e. the effect of an
initial hotsync to an empty database.)
This generated the following relevant
portion of the log:-
22:36:55 [ [Conduit vcal-conduit]
22:36:55 Syncing with file
"/home/richard/.kde/share/apps/korganiz
er/recw.ics"
22:48:49 No Files to install
22:48:50 End of HotSync
Note the 12 mins elapsed time, during
which the empty korganizer file was
apparently being populated, but then
why the 'no files to install' message?

7) Possibly this is a separate issue, but
it is quite serious. I did notice a
problem in kpilot's/korganizer's handling
of events with a repeat. While these are
handled correctly on the pilot handheld,
kpilot and korganizer between them lose
track of the end date. The result is that
repeated events repeat for ever. This
then can get hotsynced back to the hand
held, causing an obvious mess!

Hope some of this detail is helpful. Am I missing something obvious?
If not, perhaps you can give
some suggestions on a better diagnosis.

If any of your recommendations include
installing an update, I'd appreciate step-
by-step instructions on what to do, as
I'm still relatively new to Linux (e.g.
Does one need to uninstall the current
version first, etc)

Thanks so much! I look forward to
hearing from you.
