Unless someone beats me to it I'll create a patch to KPartify KNode as 
time permits. (But I won't address the dock window issue). I looked 
into it already and I guess it will take a weekend todo, which is how 
long the KMail KPartification took and a KNode KPartification 
shouldn't be more difficult, especially as I've had quite a lot of 
practice at KPartifying apps now.

I'm not aware of a wishlist for this KPartify KNode job yet, if 
someone makes a feature request on bugs.kde.org and people vote it up 
then that would encourage me to spend my time KPartifying KNode.

I agree having an IRC component is a very desirable feature, because 
of the natural integrations (like seeing irc logs in the address 
book). I've talked about this previously on this list in a 'BBDB' 
thread.

There are quite a lot of options to decide in how to integrate an IRC 
client GUI wise into Kontact.
