The Kaplan approach is the way to go. I discussed that with the KMail guys at 
LinuxTag and they had somewhat of a roadmap for making KMail and KNode ready 
for a PIM integration, but that will take some time.

Advance is nice, but we don't want a monolitic application, althought I have 
to admint that I thought about how to do the integration best and it caused 
me quite some headaches, but still, I don't want to force people to a 
all-in-one solution. Let's see what's possible (and realistic).
