Which leads to the following error:

c++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../.. -I../../kpilot/lib -I/opt/kde/include
-I/opt/qt/include -I/usr/X11R6/include  -I/usr/include/libpisock
-DQT_THREAD_SUPPORT  -D_REENTRANT  -DNDEBUG -DNO_DEBUG -O2 -fno-exceptions
-fno-check-new -g -c main-test.cc
main-test.cc: In function `int main(int, char **)':
main-test.cc:247: `debug_level' undeclared (first use this function)
main-test.cc:247: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
main-test.cc:247: for each function it appears in.)

So, I wrapped the reference to debug_level in a #ifdef DEBUG and finally got a
compile.
