That's a *really* werid question. In the sense that how could you find out
about this email list without knowing at least about the existence of KDE
and the KDE site? I'm sure it mentions something about Open Source there.

In short: yes. Note that kmail is in kdenetwork, not kdepim. Get the
source from: CVS, webcvs, anoncvs (see the KDE site) or from your
distribution.

There is no single database. Each app has its own for whatever it does
best.

Yes. Again, depending on the application. Using DCOP is a good idea, since
not every app has a libappbackend for a true API. (Korg and Kaddr do,
though, so for that stuff look in their sources).
