without fully understanding what you are trying to do, here's what i might do:
create an object in the constructor of the runner that will do the KIO. this
object will therefore live in the main thread of the application. connect a
slot in this object to a signal from the runner (qt will queue the signals
from the different threads) and in that slot do the kio. bingo -> async and in
the main gui thread.
