even if is not really trivial as dataengine (and this would't as well) it 
would basically have almost the same architecture and similar api as the 
nowplaying dataengine/plasmoid (presentations instead of songs, but very, very 
similar ;).
so i suggest to start looking around on how nowplaying works, how its 
souces/services are called etc
