My side note was not the main point of my mail. If it was, it would've been a mail outside 
this thread.
Martin wanted to remove the GUI option to deactivate compositing completely. I suggested 
to move it to Advanced and he said he likes the idea.
Now I made a mockup to see myself (and show others) how it would look. And I feel 
wholeheartedly that the result not only meets Martin's requirements, it also increases 
usability.
How often do you get that in a compromise?

Maybe I do a mockup of a full-blown redesign soon. I can't promise anything, though.
