Dont shoot the messenger, Ryan =2D--------- Forwarded Message ---------- Subject: [KDE Usability] Plasma - Add Widgets screen Date: Fri 25 June 2010, 12:07:44 pm =46rom: Moritz Hobe To: kde-usability@kde.org When rightclicking on the desktop (or a panel) and choosing 'Add Widget',=20 Plasma shows this nightmare of usability at the bottom of the screen where = you=20 are supposed to find what you are looking for either by: =2D mostly hidden, huge (no more than 12 icons fit on my 16:10 screen with= =20 1280px), meaningless (e.g. five clock icons for five different clock=20 Plasmoids) icons for the Plasmoids themselves with tiny descriptions with t= wo=20 hardly visible arrows on the side which are shown whether they can be used = or=20 not (there is a left arrow even if I'm at the utmost left item in a categor= y) =2D mostly hidden categories with just two hardly visible arrows on the rig= ht=20 indicating there's more to discover (if you really want to go on) and forci= ng=20 you to click once for nearly every category =2D name which you probably won't remember after having installed more than= 2=20 Plasmoids in a row and which even can be different to the name displayed in= =20 the 'Download new Widgets' dialog. IMO, the Add Widget screen used to be a LOT better before this horrible=20 makeover. I personally find myself in the mood for exploring what the Plasmoid univer= se=20 has to offer every once in a while, but after no more than 10 minutes, I'm= =20 completely frustrated with it and stick to my old fashioned, nearly clean=20 desktop. There is not even a category offering "Just installed Plasmoids". Note: I'm only talking about SELECTING already INSTALLED Plasmoids. The 'Download new Widgets' (or so) dialog is not exactly the best user=20 experience but by far not the biggest problem here. Will this be/has this been changed with KDE 4.5?
