in paintInterface, there is a call to update(). update() schedules a call to 
paintInterface. result: infinite looping with no particularly useful painting 
going on. remove the update() call and it paints properly.

btw, you need license headers in your files so we know what the licensing of 
them is. i didn't commit the fix directly because of that, actually :)
