i would say yes if there are goind to be multiple containments
every containment with its own and different set of applets, so also the 
icons. i think it would not be a problem if the icon applets are not going to 
represent a view on the desktop folder anymore.
on the original question i think if one wants different wallpapers per desktop 
there would be different containments on each desktop, wouldn't do some 
strange intermediate solution
