Sorry, my mistake.
It works perfectly after a make clean.
(My questions are still valid though.)

Here is a tip I have to get the mpeglib_divxplugin
from http://mpeglib.sourceforge.net working.
Add the line "Language=C++" to the file
mpeglib_divxplugin-0.1.6/divxlib_artsplug/DIVXPlayObject.mcopclass.
