as mentioned in my earlier mail, we use here almost exclusivly X-Terminals
so the only way to get sound would be to use NAS.

I don't think that NAS output of arts is high in the priority list, so here
the naive question:  Does a NAS output filter(?) for arts makes sense at
all?  I guess best I can do is to cut and paste something together from
the auplay (for wav files) sources and a (hopefully :) existing arts output
filter example.
