Yes I think a standard codec interface would help multimedia on Linux, 
especially if it easily allows commercial vendors to add codecs to "all" 
media programs by just writing one "plugin".

But that doesn't fix our "need" for a native KDE multimedia API. What that API 
should look like or provide is what I want to find out.
