OK, I applied and installed in libartskde, mpeglib, mpeglib_artsplug, and 
streaming is almost perfect.  The only problem is that the first few 
seconds of vorbis streams are being cut off.

Not here, since applying that patch it's perfect.  Perhaps your crash is a 
different one?  Do you get the backtrace I was getting?
